Gin & Golf – there are no surprises that the two go very well together.
In November last year I ran my second Food, Fashion & Lifestyle Ladies Classic and our Major prize was a Private Master Distiller’s Reserve Presentation for a party of eight from Puhoi Organic Distillery.
As luck would have it the winner of this prize invited my husband and me to join the group of eight for the outing and what an outing it was.
This is a great experience well worth keeping a note of for when you are golfing in the North of Auckland region.
Located in Puhoi a small artisan community just 35 minutes drive up SH1 from Auckland CBD. The Puhoi Organic Distillery is the only Bespoke Organic Distillery in New Zealand and the only distillery in Auckland region recommended by the Lonely Planet Guide’s ‘Global Distilleries Tour.

The presentation with Alex (Master Distiller) was informative, entertaining and most importantly tasty. There were platters of cold cuts, olives, pickles and cheeses to accompany what I can assure you was some of the best Gin I’ve had. I found no need to add tonic to the Gins we sampled. They were so smooth and clean. The flavours of the various botanicals easy to taste and some really interesting combinations that worked even if a skeptical eyebrow was raised.
If you are not a Gin drinker, never fear, Alex produces some very high quality alternatives…Vodka, Vermouth, Rum, Whiskey. Even a Lemoncello that I could have easily got carried away with.
