Helensville District Golf Club -Auckland
48kms or 40minutes North of Auckland CBD is Helensville District Golf Club.
The course layout is a combination of tree lined fairways, lakes, and streams, set in park like surroundings with a gentle flat walk. Some of the holes are very narrow off the Tee so a straight hitter is going to have a better outing.
We played on a Sunday morning and the course was mostly full and the pace was ok. We only had to hold up on the tees on the shorter holes.
From the ladies’ tees with a slope rating of 129 the course is long. Distance 5,237 metres or 5,727 yards. There are 6 par 5’s, 7 par 4’s and 5 par 3’s for woman.
The other golfers we met were friendly, the weather was a mix of grey and drizzle, the fairways were soft but not muddy. The Greens were in good condition and fast. The course was tidy, bunkers had sharp edges, but several Tee boxes were a bit rough.
The girls thought the 8th hole was the prettiest, but we could not discern a signature hole.
The clubhouse after our round is small but comfortable. We had a drink, checked out their noticeboard which had a lot of great things going on and chatted to a couple of other people. It was all in all nice outing.
